Interpreting tables

The KS2Gems2022 pack offers a versatile collection of ten tables designed to enhance the understanding of statistics among Year 3 students. These tables can be displayed for either the whole class or small groups, providing a basis for discussion and analysis of the data presented. Students can use the data to create bar charts or pictograms, which helps them visualise the information in a different format. Additionally, the tables serve as a resource for children to develop their own questions about the data, encouraging critical thinking and data interpretation skills.

The tables cover a range of topics, from the number of boys and girls attending after-school clubs on each weekday to the hours children spend on various activities like gaming and reading. They also include comparative data such as the time Year 3 and Year 4 students spend on hobbies like playing chess and football, favourite sports among 60 children, and preferred holiday destinations among 50 adults. Other tables show how much pocket money children spend on items like comics and sweets, changes in train fares between 2019 and 2020, rainfall amounts in London across different months in 2018, 2019, and 2020, sports preferences among five children, and favourite pizza toppings chosen by another group of five children. These diverse tables are a rich resource for engaging students in the practical application of statistical concepts.
