Properties of Shape - Measure with a Protractor - Starter
Maths Resource Description
During the Summer Term's third week, Year 6 students engage with a series of mathematical challenges to sharpen their skills. The 'Fluent in Four' revision segment provides a mix of arithmetic and problem-solving exercises. Students begin by adding together numbers in different forms, such as thousands, tens, ones, and hundreds, to practice their addition skills. For example, they combine 8 thousands, 27 tens, and 4 ones with 5 hundreds and 357 ones to find the total. Another task involves interpreting data, where pupils analyze the percentage of their peers who have chosen different hobbies, such as walking, reading, and football, from a group of 180 students.
Additionally, the students are tasked with finding missing digits in numbers to ensure they round correctly to the nearest thousand, specifically targeting the number forty-eight thousand. This exercise helps to reinforce their understanding of place value and rounding. In another activity, students convert measurements between kilograms and tonnes, filling in a table to practice their conversion skills. These exercises not only test the students' arithmetic prowess but also their ability to apply mathematical concepts to real-life scenarios, preparing them for more complex mathematical challenges ahead.
