Percentages - Assessment (2)
Maths Resource Description
In a comprehensive assessment on percentages for Year 6 students, pupils are challenged with a variety of tasks designed to test their understanding of the concept. The assessment includes questions that involve identifying the percentage of shaded areas on hundred grids, with the aid of bar models to visualise the quantities. Students are also instructed to shade a specific percentage of a grid themselves, further reinforcing the practical application of percentages. Additionally, the assessment probes their ability to calculate percentages of given quantities, such as finding 50%, 25%, 20%, 5%, 60%, and 10% of weights and numbers, thereby testing their computational skills in real-world contexts.
The assessment continues with a self-evaluation section where students rate their confidence in dealing with percentages, followed by more complex problems that require deeper understanding and application of percentage calculations. For instance, they must work out what 50% of a number is when given one half, and solve problems involving financial and quantity-based scenarios, such as determining the amount spent from a bank account and the number of apples remaining after certain percentages have been used. The paper also includes a percentage bar chart question where students must identify the percentage of counters of different colours, and a conversion task that asks them to match percentages with their equivalent fractions and decimals. This comprehensive assessment is designed to cover a range of skills, from basic percentage calculations to more intricate real-life applications and conversions.
