Percentages - Order Fractions, Decimals and Percentages - Starter
Maths Resource Description
In a series of mathematical exercises designed for Year 6 students during their Spring Term, Week 3, Day 4, pupils are challenged with a variety of problems to test their fluency in mathematical concepts. One of the tasks involves calculating the coordinates of the vertices of shapes, where students must apply their knowledge of geometry to identify the correct points on a grid. The exercises also include division, with a question like 672 ÷ 8, which equals 84, and numerical expressions such as determining the value of eight ones, seven hundreds, and nine tens, followed by doubling the number seven.
Another part of the lesson focuses on percentages and real-life applications. Zach, a character in a problem-solving scenario, is selling raffle tickets. Out of 100 tickets, he sells 26% on Monday, followed by 33 tickets on Tuesday. Students must calculate how many tickets Zach sells on Wednesday to reach a total of 90% sold. The answer is revealed as 31 tickets, representing the 31% sold on Wednesday, which, when added to the previous sales, completes the 90%. Additionally, students are asked to identify the greatest common multiple of 4 and 6 below 100, which is 96, and to recognize numbers that are multiples of more than one number, such as 36, which is a multiple of both 9 and 6.
