Properties of Shape - Drawing Lines and Angles Accurately (Activity) - Starter
Maths Resource Description
The 'Fluent in Four' revision activity for Year 5 students, part of the Summer Term Week 6 curriculum, challenges their mathematical skills with a variety of problems. Students begin with arithmetic, adding numbers such as seventy-three hundreds with ninety-four ones to four tens, eight hundreds, and eight ones, aiming to develop their understanding of place value and addition. They are also tasked with completing numerical sequences and determining the underlying rule, for example, identifying a pattern where the difference between consecutive numbers is ten or subtracting one hundred to find the next number in a descending sequence.
In another exercise, students apply their knowledge of multiplication and area to a real-world problem involving a tangerine garden measuring 38 metres by 56 metres. They calculate the total number of tangerines based on the average yield per square metre. For instance, multiplying the area of the garden (2,128 square metres) by the average yield (69 tangerines per square metre) gives a total of 146,832 tangerines. Additionally, the activity includes measuring angles using a protractor, providing a practical application of geometry. This set of tasks is designed to reinforce students' numerical fluency, problem-solving skills, and understanding of geometric properties.
