Decimals - Subtracting Decimals within 1 (2) - Worksheet
Maths Resource Description
This worksheet is designed to help children master the skill of subtracting decimals within the range of 1 using the column method. The exercises are divided into two main sections: Fluency & Precision and Reasoning & Problem Solving. In the Fluency & Precision section, students are provided with a series of subtraction problems involving decimals, such as 0.45 – 0.32 and 0.675 – 0.311. They are expected to accurately perform these calculations using the column method to find the differences. The worksheet also challenges students to compare subtraction calculations using comparison symbols, further enhancing their understanding of decimal values and the subtraction process.
The Reasoning & Problem Solving section encourages deeper thinking by asking students to identify odd calculations out and to explain their reasoning. For example, students may be asked to consider why a calculation like 0.379 – 0.012 might seem impossible to someone and to identify the unique calculation among a set where all others have six hundredths. This part of the worksheet is designed to develop critical thinking and to help children understand the logic behind decimal subtraction, ensuring they not only know how to perform the calculations but also understand the concepts behind them.
