Fractions - Unit and non unit fractions - Starter
Maths Resource Description
The 'Fluent in Four - Revision' activity is designed for Year 4 students to practice their mathematical skills during the Spring Term, specifically in Week 5. It starts with addition problems, such as calculating the sum of 3,274 and 643, and then progresses to more complex tasks like adding multi-digit numbers represented in hundreds, tens, and ones. For example, students are challenged to add 28 hundreds, 14 tens, and 15 ones to 88 tens and 6 ones. The activities also include exercises to practise time-telling, such as identifying the time 14 minutes past 11.
Another part of the activity focuses on understanding and comparing areas using the symbols >, =, and <. Students are asked to complete a part-whole model and write corresponding number sentences to demonstrate their comprehension of addition and the relationship between numbers. For instance, they need to find the combination of numbers that add up to 681, using 230, 400, and 51. Additionally, the activity includes a practical application of scheduling, where students must determine which days are free from both boxing and karate based on a given timetable, concluding that Tuesday and Thursday are the days without these activities.
