Multiplication and Division - Efficient Multiplication - Starter
Maths Resource Description
In the 'Fluent in Four - Revision' activity, aimed at Year 4 students in their Spring Term, children are presented with a series of maths challenges that focus on efficient multiplication and division. The tasks begin with straightforward division problems such as '343 ÷ 7 =', where students are expected to calculate the quotient. They are also asked to divide '3,372' by 'double 3', which means dividing by 6, to test their understanding of numerical expressions. Additionally, the worksheet includes a conversion exercise where children must express amounts in pounds and pence, such as converting '285p' and '499p' into the correct monetary format.
The activity also incorporates a 'factor bug' exercise, which is a fun and visual way for students to find all the factors of a given number. In this case, they work with the number 28 and are asked to list its factors, which include 1, 2, 4, 7, 14, and 28, demonstrating their understanding of multiplication and division. To complete the set of tasks, students are also required to measure the length of a pencil, further applying their knowledge of measurement in centimetres and millimetres. The variety of exercises in this activity is designed to enhance the pupils' arithmetic skills and their ability to switch between different units of measurement and representation.
