Place value - Counting in 25s - Starter
Maths Resource Description
The Autumn Term starter activities for Year 4, Week 4, are designed to reinforce students' understanding of place value and arithmetic operations. The exercises include a variety of tasks such as completing a table by adding numbers like 351 and 431, and combining tens and ones to form new numbers. These tasks not only strengthen addition skills but also encourage students to think about the composition of numbers in terms of place value.
Another part of the starter activities includes rounding numbers to the nearest thousand, where students are given a starting number, such as 7,457, and asked to round it. They also practice multiplication with problems like 100 multiplied by 8. Additionally, students are tasked with inserting comparison symbols to correctly complete mathematical statements, further enhancing their understanding of number magnitude. The activities incorporate real-world data by asking students to analyse the number of goals scored by famous football forwards, such as Messi, Kane, and Ronaldo, to determine the total goals scored by the top three players and to compare goal tallies between players. These practical applications make the exercises engaging and relevant to the students' experiences.
