Maths Resource Description
In a Year 3 mathematics lesson, students are presented with a series of practical problems to solve as part of their 'Fluent in Four' revision activity. The tasks are designed to consolidate their understanding of multiplication, division, addition, and measurement. The first problem requires them to multiply four by twenty-four, sharpening their times tables skills. Following this, they are tasked to find the missing multiplier in an equation to make the product 18. The lesson also includes a bar model problem where students must calculate the number of boxes needed to tidy away 36 cars, with 9 cars fitting into each box.
Further applying their arithmetic skills, the children work out the total cost of a train and a cube by adding £4.57 and £6.79. The lesson then shifts focus to capacity, where students calculate the total volume of liquids used to make a Summer Punch for one person, combining 150 ml of pineapple juice, 170 ml of orange juice, and 350 ml of lemonade. They are also challenged to double the amount of pineapple juice to make enough punch for two people. These exercises not only test the pupils' numerical abilities but also their understanding of real-world applications of mathematics, such as budgeting and recipe adjustments.
