Maths Resource Description
Master the Curriculum provides an engaging set of activities for Year 3 students in their Spring Term, Week 6. The "Fluent in Four" revision section encourages quick mental arithmetic, challenging students with tasks such as doubling numbers and finding the result of simple multiplications and subtractions. In one example, students are tasked with doubling 9 and finding a number two less than 6, which hones their basic arithmetic skills. Another activity involves finding the change from a purchase, where students must write the calculation for the change after buying a doughnut for 99p, emphasizing the practical application of maths in everyday situations.
Another set of exercises focuses on measurements and understanding lengths. For instance, students are asked to determine the length of a doll that is 10 cm shorter than a 38 cm train, and subsequently, to calculate the length of a car that is half the length of the doll. These problems encourage students to apply their knowledge of subtraction and division in a real-world context. The activities progress to include completing bar charts and tally charts, ordering items by weight, and summarising data such as the number of homework tasks set throughout the week. This variety of tasks not only reinforces mathematical concepts but also introduces students to data representation and interpretation, preparing them for more complex mathematical challenges.
