Properties of shape - Assessment
Maths Resource Description
The Properties of Shape Assessment for Year 2 is a comprehensive resource designed to evaluate students' understanding of geometric shapes and their attributes. This assessment challenges pupils to match various shapes with their correct names, such as a pyramid, cone, cuboid, cube, and cylinder. It also tests their ability to continue shape patterns by drawing the subsequent figures. Additionally, students are asked to complete sentences by identifying the number of sides and vertices on given shapes, reinforcing their knowledge of geometry vocabulary and concepts.
Students are further tested on their ability to recognise lines of symmetry in shapes, an essential skill in understanding shape properties. The assessment includes a practical component where students must deduce the 3-D shape being described based on the 2-D shapes visible from a particular perspective. For example, identifying a shape with one square face and four triangular faces as a pyramid. The assessment also encourages self-reflection, asking pupils to rate their confidence in the subject matter. Finally, it includes a sorting task where students must categorise 3-D shapes based on their properties, such as the number of faces, edges, and vertices, or by distinguishing between curved surfaces and cuboids, enhancing their critical thinking and classification skills.
