Time - Before and after - Starter
Maths Resource Description
The educational material provided is designed to enhance the mathematical skills of Year 1 students during their Summer Term. On Day 2 of Week 11, the children are introduced to a variety of exercises that encourage them to practice subtraction, storytelling with sequencing, and number recognition. In the 'Fluent in Four - Revision' section, students are prompted to solve simple subtraction problems such as '15 – 13', which equals 2, and 'Sixteen – double 6', which requires them to double the number 6 and subtract it from 16. This exercise not only tests their arithmetic skills but also reinforces their understanding of numbers and basic operations.
Another part of the learning activity involves a creative storytelling task where children are asked to arrange a sequence of pictures and narrate a story using the words 'before' and 'after' to describe the events. For example, they might begin with a sunny day, follow with a thunderstorm, and conclude with a rainbow, crafting a coherent narrative based on the order of the images. Additionally, the students are encouraged to observe an image and articulate what they see by identifying whole numbers and their component parts. In a separate task, they are asked to write down numbers represented by tens frames and counters, further developing their ability to recognize and understand numbers within the context of visual aids.
