Translations - Worksheet
Maths Resource Description
The worksheet provided is designed to help students identify and describe translations of shapes on a grid. Students are presented with pairs of shapes labelled A and B, and they must determine whether shape B is a translation of shape A. To do this, they are given two options to circle: "translation" if shape B is a translated version of shape A without any rotation or reflection, or "not a translation" if shape B has been altered in a way that is not consistent with a translation.
For the descriptive part of the worksheet, students are asked to observe the position of shape B relative to shape A and quantify the translation in terms of how many squares the shape has been moved left or right, and up or down on the grid. This exercise reinforces the concept of translation as a slide from one position to another, maintaining the same orientation and size. The worksheet is structured to provide a clear and systematic approach to understanding translations, with spaces for students to write their answers and demonstrate their comprehension of the geometric concept.
