10 Times Tables - Box it
Maths Resource Description
"Box It" is an engaging and educational game designed to help players practice and reinforce their knowledge of the 10 times tables. To set up the game, you will need counters, a 'Multiples of 10' board, and a set of cards numbered from 0 to 12. Begin by shuffling the cards and laying them face down. Players take turns to draw a card, multiply the number by ten, and then place a counter on the corresponding number on the board. For instance, if a player picks a card with the number 4, they would cover the number 40 on the board, as 4 multiplied by 10 equals 40.
The objective of the game is to be the first player to form a specific pattern on the board with the counters. A player wins by covering four numbers that form a 2 by 2 box. For a longer game, the goal can be adjusted to cover six numbers in a 2 by 3 box. If a player draws a card and all the possible answers on the board are already covered, they set the card aside and draw again. This game not only makes learning multiplication facts more enjoyable but also encourages strategic thinking as players aim to cover the required pattern on the board before their opponents do.
