Split It - Number facts up to 10
Maths Resource Description
'Split It' is a fun and educational game designed to help children learn and reinforce number facts up to ten. To play, each participant requires a 0-9 dice, a digit board, and a set of counters. The objective of the game is to develop a strong understanding of how numbers can be split into two parts that add up to the initial number rolled on the dice. For instance, if a player rolls a seven, they can choose to cover the numbers 1 and 6, 2 and 5, or 3 and 4 on their digit board. Throws resulting in a 0 or 1 are discarded, prompting the player to roll the dice again.
The goal of the game is to be the first player to arrange four of their counters in a straight line, which can be achieved horizontally, vertically, or diagonally on the digit board. Throughout the game, players are encouraged to use their fingers for counting and to remember the pairs of numbers they have previously used. This not only aids in quick recall of number facts but also helps in identifying patterns and relationships between them, such as understanding that if 3 plus 3 equals 6, then 3 plus 4 will equal 7. 'Split It' is an interactive way to practice basic addition and develop strategic thinking in young learners.
