Add 10
Maths Resource Description
The "Add 10" game is an engaging educational activity designed to help young learners practice the concept of adding ten to single-digit numbers. This game is suitable for students who are beginning to understand the place value system and how numbers change when incremented by ten. To play, each participant will need a 0-9 dice, a Teens board displaying numbers 10 through 19, and a set of counters to mark their progress.
During the game, players take turns rolling the dice. When a player rolls a number, they must add ten to it and then place a counter on the corresponding number on the Teens board. For example, if a player rolls a five, they add ten to make fifteen and then cover the number 15 on the board. The aim of the game is to be the first to align four counters in a row, which can be horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. Through this game, learners will discover that when ten is added to a single-digit number, the unit digit remains the same, and the ten's place increases by one, reinforcing the concept that in a number like 15, the '1' represents one ten and the '5' represents five units or ones.
