# Arithmetic Checklist and Assessment

## Maths Resource Description

The ArithmeCheck series by Buzzard Publishing is a comprehensive arithmetic assessment tool designed to measure and improve the mathematical skills of students. The ArithmeCheck 4A, 4B, and 4C checklists cover a wide array of arithmetic topics, such as place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. These checklists enable students to self-evaluate their abilities by marking tasks they can confidently perform and identifying areas that require further practice, labeled as "Can't Do… Yet." The exercises range from ordering numbers and rounding them to the nearest 10, 100, or 1000, to more complex operations like multiplying and dividing multi-digit numbers and decimals. Additionally, the assessments incorporate practical questions to solidify the students' understanding of the concepts and encourage the use of mental arithmetic as well as written methods.

For example, in the place value section, students are challenged to order four-digit numbers and decimals, and to round numbers to specified degrees of accuracy. The addition and subtraction sections include problems with both whole numbers and decimals, pushing students to apply their knowledge of number facts and rounding strategies. Multiplication and division tasks not only require recall of times table facts but also the application of these facts to more complex calculations. The ArithmeCheck assessments are structured to progressively build students' confidence and competence in arithmetic, with each section providing a series of questions and corresponding answers to facilitate self-assessment and targeted learning. The clear structure and incremental difficulty of the tasks make these checklists an effective resource for enhancing students' arithmetic skills.
