Max Maths, Year 6, Practice, Time review (2)
Maths Resource Description
In Max Maths for Year 6, students are tasked with practicing their time conversion skills, specifically converting hours and minutes into just minutes, and vice versa. For example, they are asked to convert 7 hours into minutes or determine how many hours and minutes are in 181 minutes. This requires them to apply their understanding of the fact that one hour is equivalent to 60 minutes. Additionally, they are challenged to calculate the duration of a movie in hours and minutes when given the total running time in minutes, such as converting 138 minutes to find out how long Toby's movie lasted.
Another practical application presented is converting playtime into minutes, as with Jade's park adventure, which lasted for 3 hours and 15 minutes. Students are encouraged to visit workbook pages 180 to 192 for further exercises. The Maths Challenge section pushes the students further by asking them to calculate the number of seconds in an hour, a day, and then to contemplate the number of weeks and days they have lived. This section not only tests their calculation skills but also their comprehension of time as a concept, with the key being the understanding that one hour equals 60 minutes and one minute equals 60 seconds, leading to the fact that one hour contains 3,600 seconds.
