Max Maths, Year 6, Try it, Estimating and measuring angles
Maths Resource Description
In the "Try It" section of Max Maths for Year 6, students are tasked with identifying and measuring various angles using a protractor. They are required to write down the name of each angle presented and then use a protractor to accurately measure its value. The exercise begins with an example that has already been completed to guide the students. They are presented with a series of angles labelled (a) to (d), each with specific points such as 'CB' for angle (a), and variables like 'x', 'p', and 'q' for the others, to help them identify and measure the angles correctly.
Following the measurement task, students are asked to classify each angle based on its size. They need to determine whether each angle is acute (less than 90 degrees), right (exactly 90 degrees), obtuse (greater than 90 degrees but less than 180 degrees), or reflex (greater than 180 degrees). This exercise not only reinforces their understanding of angle types but also provides practical experience in using a protractor to measure angles accurately. For further practice and to deepen their understanding, students are directed to refer to workbook pages 126 to 130, where additional exercises and information can be found.
