Cops and Robbers - Everything I know about discrimination - Black History - Year 2

In a classroom activity designed for Year 2 pupils studying Black History, the game 'Cops and Robbers' is used as an engaging method to help children consolidate their knowledge about discrimination. The pupils are arranged into small groups of four and given a chart divided into two sections: 'Own recalled knowledge' and 'Stolen knowledge'. Initially, they have two minutes to individually note down everything they can remember about the subject in the first section of the chart. Following this, each pupil has one minute to review the contributions of their peers, identifying any new information they haven't already noted.

After reviewing each other's work, the pupils have the opportunity to 'steal' this new knowledge by adding it to the 'Stolen knowledge' section of their chart. This collaborative learning technique not only encourages pupils to share information but also to learn from one another. The activity is designed to last approximately 15 minutes and includes an element of gamification, where pupils are awarded two points for each piece of information they record. This interactive approach aims to spark discussions about important figures in Black History and their contributions to improving our world, thus deepening the pupils' understanding of discrimination and its impact.
