Long-term overview - Black History - Year 2

In Year 2, students embark on a journey to explore the significant contributions of famous black individuals who have played a pivotal role in making our world a better place. The curriculum includes discussions about discrimination and its impact on society. Through this exploration, children learn about iconic figures such as Rosa Parks, whose refusal to give up her seat on a bus became a symbol of the civil rights movement, and Nelson Mandela, who fought tirelessly against apartheid in South Africa. The contributions of Lewis Howard Latimer, an inventor and engineer who improved the design of the electric light bulb, are also highlighted, as well as the inspiring courage of Malala Yousafzai, who advocates for girls' education.

Within the disciplinary knowledge of history, the curriculum for Year 2 students covers various aspects such as chronology and causation, historical enquiry, and interpretation and significance.
