Cops and robbers - What do you know about immigration and the UK?

The 'Cops and Robbers' activity is an engaging and collaborative educational exercise designed to explore the impact of immigration on Britain over the past century. Pupils are arranged in groups of four and given a structured opportunity to share and expand their knowledge on the subject. Initially, each pupil has two minutes to jot down everything they can recall about the effects of immigration in the UK on the left side of a chart, relying solely on their own memory.

Following this, pupils have one minute each to peruse the work of their peers, seeking out new information that they hadn't previously noted. This is where the 'robbery' element comes into play, as they 'steal' knowledge from one another, adding it to the 'stolen knowledge' section of their chart. This interactive process not only encourages learning from one another but also makes the activity dynamic and fun. Each piece of information recorded scores two points, incentivizing students to learn as much as possible from their group. The entire activity is designed to take approximately 15 minutes, making it a concise yet effective tool for enhancing understanding of immigration's role in shaping modern Britain.
