Know it! - teacher's notes

Focus Education (UK) Ltd has developed a series of teacher's notes aimed at educating Year 6 pupils about the critical issue of climate change. The "Know it!" section includes retrieval tasks designed to encourage students to recall and list the impacts of global warming, industry's role in climate change, and the main greenhouse gases. Each task is an individual activity where pupils use keywords or phrases instead of full sentences. The objective is to list as many correct entries as possible within a 15-minute timeframe, with each correct entry scoring two points. Spelling is not a primary concern in these exercises, allowing students to focus on the content of their responses.

Additionally, the notes provide a framework for children to explore why climate change is happening, with a task that asks them to give five reasons for this global phenomenon. Another activity, titled "Cops and robbers", involves group work where pupils have an opportunity to share and 'steal' knowledge from their peers, further enhancing their understanding of climate change. This collaborative exercise also awards points for each piece of information recorded. These educational tasks not only reinforce the importance of climate change as a topic but also engage students in a way that promotes active learning and retention of crucial environmental concepts.
