Where are the different regions in the world where different biomes exist? - Teacher notes

In this educational unit, students are introduced to the concept of biomes, large ecological areas on the Earth's surface with distinct animal and plant life. The unit's goal is for pupils to learn about the geographical distribution of various biomes around the world. To achieve this, students will engage with a world map activity, where they will identify and colour code regions according to the specific biome they represent. The exercise focuses on six distinct biomes: tundras, deserts, savannahs, rainforests, woodlands, and grasslands.

The colouring activity begins with pupils revisiting three biomes they have previously studied: deserts, tundras, and rainforests. Each biome will be assigned a unique colour to visually differentiate them on the map. Through this hands-on task, students will gain a visual understanding of where these biomes are located globally. This approach not only reinforces their knowledge of the characteristics and creation of biomes but also enhances their geographical skills by associating biomes with specific regions on the world map.
