Armistice Runner - Session 2 - Character Analysis Gran and Granddad
English Resource Description
In the second session of 'Armistice Runner', students delve into a character analysis activity, focusing on the protagonist's grandparents. The session begins with an exploration of Gran's character. Students are tasked with extracting words and phrases directly from the text that illustrate Gran's physical appearance, providing a vivid image of her. Additionally, the text is used as a resource to gather insights into Gran's manner of speaking and her behaviour. Beyond textual evidence, students are encouraged to engage with the character creatively by drawing a picture of Gran based on the descriptions they've gathered. To deepen their understanding, students also describe Gran's personality in their own words, using the text as a foundation but adding their own interpretations to flesh out her character.
Similarly, the session continues with an analysis of Granddad's character. Again, the students comb through the text, this time to find descriptive language that paints a picture of Granddad's appearance. They also look for clues about his speech patterns and actions to gain a better sense of how he interacts with the world around him. Following the textual analysis, students are invited to create their own visual representation of Granddad, drawing from the details found in the story. To round off the activity, they use their own words and phrases to encapsulate Granddad's personality, synthesising their findings into a personal interpretation that captures the essence of his character.
