Armistice Runner - Session 1 - Character Analysis Lily
English Resource Description
In the first session focused on 'Armistice Runner', students undertake a character analysis to delve into the protagonist, Lily. The activity is structured to encourage a comprehensive understanding of her character through various lenses. Initially, the students are prompted to extract words and phrases directly from the text that illustrate Lily's physical appearance. This exercise not only helps in visualising the character but also in understanding how the author conveys visual details through language.
Moving beyond the superficial, the next step in the analysis requires students to identify and consider the language used to depict Lily's speech and actions. This part of the activity aims to provide insights into her behaviour and the way she interacts with others. To further engage with the character, students are then asked to use the descriptions they've gathered to draw a picture of Lily, allowing them to express their interpretation creatively. Finally, the session invites students to employ their own vocabulary to articulate Lily's personality traits, encouraging them to synthesise their observations and express their understanding of her character in a personal and unique way.
