Beegu - Learning Sequence

As the weeks progress, children read through the story page by page, discussing Beegu's thoughts and feelings, the reactions of other characters, and the environment she finds herself in. They engage in various activities, such as annotating illustrations with sounds of the city, writing speech and thought bubbles, and predicting the story's developments.

By week four, the children revisit the story, creating a class story map and delving deeper into Beegu's character traits and emotions. They build vocabulary banks, including time adverbials and 'ly' words, to enhance their story retelling skills. The sequence includes games to practice conjunctions and evaluate sentence structure. In the final weeks, the children consider the broader themes of the story, especially the contrasting reactions of adults and children. They partake in a hands-on activity, constructing a shelter for Beegu using various materials, which helps them explore vocabulary related to the properties of these materials. The sequence concludes with the children reading and discussing poems about games from a selected poetry book, with opportunities for performance if desired.
