Macbeth - Lesson 16 - Lost the plot PowerPoint
English Resource Description
In Lesson 16 of a series on Shakespeare's 'Macbeth', students are tasked with consolidating their knowledge and understanding of Act Three. The objective of the lesson is to complete a summary of the act by filling in missing words to reinforce the narrative. The summary recounts how Macbeth, now the King of Scotland, is plagued by insecurity and haunted by the witches' prophecy that Banquo's descendants will rule. To safeguard his throne, Macbeth arranges for assassins to murder Banquo and his son Fleance. The plan is only partially successful; Banquo is killed, but Fleance manages to flee.
The lesson continues with the aftermath of the assassination attempt, where Macbeth, during a banquet at his castle, is informed by one of the murderers about Banquo's death and Fleance's escape. The situation escalates when Banquo's ghost appears and takes Macbeth's place at the table, visible only to the troubled king. Macbeth's reaction is one of extreme disturbance, and he nearly confesses his crimes in front of his guests. Lady Macbeth intervenes, making excuses for her husband's behaviour and quickly dismissing the attendees. Determined to maintain his grip on power and to quell any threats to his reign, Macbeth resolves to seek out the witches once more. The lesson also includes a creative exercise where students are invited to transform the events of Act Three into a comic strip, further engaging with the plot and characters of the play.
