Using the Senses - Lesson 2: Exploring the Senses - PowerPoint
English Resource Description
Exploring the senses is an integral part of the English curriculum, aimed at enhancing descriptive writing skills. In Lesson 2 of 'Using the Senses', students are encouraged to delve into sensory experiences to enrich their vocabulary. The lesson's objectives are clear: explore the senses and think of words and phrases that vividly describe sensory experiences. This foundational exercise is not only engaging but also instrumental in helping students articulate their perceptions with greater clarity and detail.
The lesson involves an interactive activity where students are given sweets and asked to use all five senses to describe them. They are prompted to observe the sweet's appearance, smell its scent, feel its texture, listen to the sound it makes when bitten, and finally, taste its flavour. This multi-sensory approach is designed to stimulate their imagination and broaden their descriptive language. After carefully analysing the sweets using their senses, students make notes of their observations, categorising words under the headings: See, Hear, Smell, Touch, and Taste. To consolidate their learning, they are then encouraged to share their descriptive words with the rest of the group, fostering a collaborative learning environment.
