Inspired by: Tin Forest - Medium Term Plan
English Resource Description
The "Tin Forest" medium-term plan is a comprehensive guide for Year 2 teachers to explore the story "The Tin Forest" by Helen Ward, illustrated by Wayne Anderson. Over the course of six weeks, students will delve into various aspects of literacy including comprehension, composition, grammar, and punctuation. In week one, the objective is to recognise recurring literary language and to discuss and express views about stories. Students will also work on writing sentences in different forms, such as questions and exclamations, and using expanded noun phrases for description.
As the weeks progress, the plan includes objectives such as making predictions, inferring from text, and understanding the sequence of events. Students will learn to plan their writing and incorporate new vocabulary. The grammar focus includes the correct use of verbs to indicate time, subordination and co-ordination in sentences, and the introduction of punctuation such as commas for lists. The plan culminates in week six with activities that encourage asking and answering questions, participating in discussions, and writing narratives based on personal or fictional experiences. Proofreading for errors in spelling, grammar, and punctuation is also emphasised, ensuring a well-rounded development of literacy skills.
