Inspired by: Tiddler - Week 3

During the Tuesday session, children are encouraged to engage with the story of Tiddler through predicting and recalling key moments. The lesson focuses on recognising and actively participating in the story's predictable phrases. The children are prompted to ponder whether Tiddler will arrive on time for the register call by Miss Skate or if he will be late again, with the expected chorus of "TIDDLER'S LATE!" being a key phrase. As the story is revisited, the children are asked to listen out for other phrases that recur, enhancing their involvement through repetition. To further immerse the students in the rhythm of the text, they are invited to develop accompanying actions, turning the storytelling into a more dynamic and memorable experience.

The concept of opposites is explored in the "Late Again" session, where the focus is on understanding the prefix "un-". The children reflect on times when they have felt both happy and unhappy, with these words serving as a starting point for investigating other words that can be transformed by the prefix, such as "kind" becoming "unkind", or "lock" turning into "unlock". Through writing these examples on the board and dramatising them, the children are encouraged to observe the changes that occur when "un" is added, discovering how it often creates opposites. This lesson not only enhances vocabulary but also supports the children's comprehension of how language can be manipulated to express contrasting meanings.
