The Lighthouse Keepers Picnic - Week 4

Mr. Grinling is a well known children's book character. In this story he joins in the games and races at the annual village picnic but then he and his wife get stranded by the tide. Mr.Grinling's friend, Sam, helps him get his hands on some tasty snacks and the story ends with a balloon trip. A beautifully illustrated book with many avenues to explore. The activities in this Year 2 English Lesson are clearly linked to objectives for composition, comprehension, grammar and punctuation using the book as the stimulus to learning. The engaging ideas provide super starting points for KS1 learning and are driven by probing questions.
