The brief history of Philidelphia

We’re hanging out with our founding fathers on this episode of Travel Thru History as we visit the very place where revolutionaries, decried “Liberty will reign in America!”  Today Philadelphia is a booming city that is as alive with new ideas today, as it was in 1776.  We start our journey in Philly on foot with one of its best guides. Then we’ll get thrown in the slammer as we get locked up inside the Eastern State Penitentiary. This prison is creepy enough to make anyone penitent.  We’ll get our inner "Eye of the Tiger" on and run up the famous steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, just like our favorite Philly man, Rocky Balboa. But inside the museum is just as epic as we get immersed in Art like never before.  You can’t go to Philly without seeing the birthplace of American Democracy, Independence Hall. 

The history of Nashville

In this episode of Travel Thru History we visit a city in the Southeastern US that you can hear from miles away. It’s rightfully called Music City but you know it as Nashville, Tennessee. We dig deep into the city’s past and find that there’s more than just a vibrant music scene. There’s a melody of Civil War history.  First, we take in the magnificent Belmont Mansion. This thirty-six room summer home lies on the campus of Belmont University and is now a museum that boasts the incredible art collection of the original owners.  Then we head to the home of the hero of the Battle of New Orleans, 7th US President Andrew Jackson’s Tennessee mansion, known as The Hermitage.  Next, we learn why Nashville is called the “Athens of the South.” And every Athens needs its Parthenon, and Nashville doesn’t disappoint. They have an exact replica of the Parthenon built in Ancient Greece. Then we’re trekking uphill to the ruins of Fort Negley. Nashville was a city divided as we learn how this star-shaped fort was occupied during the Civil War.  We couldn’t visit Nashville without stopping by the Grand Ole Opry, the show that made country music famous!  

The history of Denver

We’re striking gold on today’s episode of Travel Thru History!  We’ll hike a “Mile-High” to a city surrounded by mountains, plains and gold mines. It’s a city diverse in indoor cultural activities as well as outdoor adventures. We’re taking you to Denver, Colorado! Located in the Southwestern US, Denver residents are proud of their city. The city is also a cultural epicenter with museums, live music, and art galleries. We’re exploring the historical events and courageous frontier folks that shaped Denver into the inspirational and exciting place it is today. We’re beginning our ascent into Denver history at the History Colorado Museum. Our guide takes us through several hands-on exhibits that put you in the drivers’ seat, of the people who settled the city. We'll explore Colorado's past through first hand stories and interactive attractions. We then plateau on the plains of Denver to a multi-sensory exhibit. Home to the settlers who persevered during hard times to form their place in Colorado. Finally we descend into the mines of Silver City. You’ll be watching with bated breath as we go 700 feet underground into the Hidee Mine and chip away at the sulfite oar for our chance at bringing home gold!  

The history of Wilmington, North Carolina

We’re taking you to a hotspot of family vacation fun and intrigue on this episode of Travel Thru History. Along the east coast of the United States there is a river that has struck terror in hearts of sea captains for centuries. It’s also known for its pivotal role in American history. We are journeying by land and by sea in Wilmington, North Carolina. The city sits along the Cape Fear River and you will learn why it has rightfully earned its name as one of the most terrifying waters to navigate. If you’re more of a land lover you’ll appreciate visiting Market Street and Wilmington’s Historic District, which is the heartbeat of downtown. Local residents are also proud of the important part Wilmington played in the Civil War and World War II. We take you to Fort Fisher, which served as a Confederate fort that protected the trade routes along the Cape Fear River.  Then join us aboard the Henrietta, a Cape Fear Riverboat that gives you a look at Wilmington’s history from the water.  Our last stop is aboard another ship, the majestic USS North Carolina Battleship an incredible ship that served during World War II and was considered the world’s greatest sea weapon.

The fascinating history of Pirate Ships

We’re traveling to the oldest city in the US and we’ll find that it’s as active as ever. We can’t visit St. Augustine without letting you sample a drink from the Fountain of Youth! We show you the very spot where the city’s history began. Then we’re off to the Oldest Store Museum, to see some of the items available to turn-of-the-century Floridians. From there, we take a tour of the Lightner museum...where we’ll find more than just fine art on display. Then we take you to the Castillo de San Marcos. It is the oldest masonry fort in the United States. It has also taken quite a beating. If these walls could talk they would have incredible stories of battles and grim history. Finally walk the plank at the popular Pirate Museum. You’ll find a treasure chest full of pirate history and find out why they ruled the seas

The history and beauty of the Florida Keys

It’s island living we seek on this episode of Travel Thru History!  We visit a spectacular chain of islands off the Southern coast of Florida known as the Florida Keys. The keys have a rich history and culture distinct from the Florida mainland and her story is filled with pirate adventures, mystery and intrigue. The locals call it the Conch Republic and proudly hoist their flag in rebel defiance, just like their pirate past. First, we’ll visit the Mel Fisher Maritime Heritage Museum, named for the famous Treasure.  Mel and his dive crew discovered over $500 million dollars worth of Gold and Silver waiting patiently on the bottom of the Atlantic for over 450 years.  Next, we’ll set sail to the Dry Tortugas, a small group of islands discovered by the famous “Fountain of youth” seeker, Ponce De Leon. There, we’ll tour the incredible Fort Jefferson. We’ll learn how the Dry Tortugas got their name and what’s become of it over the last half-a century.  Finally American literature enthusiasts will enjoy a look at Ernest Hemmingway's Key West home, where some of his most famous works were penned.

Inside this museum to US History weaponary

We’re off to Louisville Kentucky on this episode home to the most famous horse race in the world, buckets of chicken and something called a hot brown. Saddle up, as we learn about Derby history at the Kentucky Derby Museum.  We’ll give you the skinny on the fastest two minutes in sports.  Louisville is home to a bunch of world famous brands. One of which is the Louisville Slugger baseball bat. We head to the Louisville Slugger Museum and factory to see how wood becomes priceless, and hold a little piece of major league baseball history.Then, we float like a butterfly and sting like a bee at the Muhammad Ali Center. Here we’ll learn not just about the accolades of one of the greatest boxers of all time, but also about this Louisville native’s personal struggles and achievements outside the ring.Next we get up close and personal with the armaments used in the history of human conflict at the Frazier museum as we take a look at these priceless original weapons of war.  Finally, we zip into history at the Louisville Mega Cavern. Kentucky is home to massive underground cave systems, but this Mega Cavern is man-made.  We’ll tell you the history of this massive underground structure.
