Biology Resource Description

Plants want water. Plants need water. However they also need carbon dioxide, which is obtained from the surrounding air. The problem is that if they let in carbon dioxide, they could be letting out some of the precious water. Transpiration is the reason for this, and plants have evolved to manage this double-edged sword in a variety of ways. In this video we discuss the process of transpiration, which basically means water evaporating out of a plant. We take a look at the stomata, which are holes underneath a leaf which allow the exchange of substances, and discuss how keeping them open or closed at different times in the day benefits the plant.
