Assessment - Art 3 - EYFS
Art and Design Resource Description
The assessment criteria for the Art 3 segment in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum revolves around the intriguing question: "How can I be as incredible as a famous artist?" To assess the children's learning and engagement with art, practitioners are encouraged to observe specific behaviours and skills. First and foremost, children should be able to articulate their thoughts on a famous artist's work, particularly noting aspects such as colour and shape. This demonstrates their ability to analyse and appreciate different elements of art.
Additionally, children should show an aptitude for colour matching, being able to mix paints to replicate the colours they see in objects around them. This skill is indicative of their understanding of colour theory and their ability to observe and recreate hues. The exploration of techniques used by famous artists, such as pointillism, is also a key part of their learning. Children should be able to recall the names of at least five renowned artists, which shows their engagement with art history and recognition of artists' contributions to the field. An appreciation for artwork is seen when children can understand why a particular piece of art is special or appealing. Finally, the confident use of pencils of different grades, at least soft and hard, indicates a developing proficiency in using art tools to create different effects and textures in their work.
